Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the fluid was probably human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
